Camafuca Camazambo

Kimberlite Camafuca-Camazambo

Kimberlite discovered by DIAMANG in 1952, during the execution of an alluvial prospecting program.

It is located in the northeast of Angola, in the district of Lucapa, Lunda Norte Province.

The drilling wells revealed the presence of a kimberlite diamond on both banks of the river Chicapa in the vicinity of the Chihungo and Candjamba tributaries.

It has an extension to the surface of 160ha and is inserted in a concession of 1.389 Km2.
Nearby kimberlites: Camutué

From the economic point of view the most important unit is the coarse grain kimberlitic (EKG), which is associated with high content, this material is concentrated around the margins of the southernmost lobes.

Operations were carried out by the DIAMANG and MATS(Mining and Technical services) companies which together developed a broad geological survey and evolution program, resulting in the delimitation of the kimberlitic body from the surface to a depth of 80m thus determining the crater facies and made estimated of the economic potential inside the body up to 145m.

During the 60´s and 80´s large diameter boreholes were performed.

As a result of the prospecting operation carried out in the period 1968-1985 several kimberlites located within the concession were discovered.
